Balkan Centenial Pictures:

The Balkan Centennial was held on September 8, 2012 at the new Balkan Community Center. A Centennial Breakfast of pancakes, sausage and beverage was served at 9 a.m. through noon. This allowed residents to meet and greet faces not seen in many years. Outside events were hampered by cold rainy weather but at 2 p.m., after the coffee social, Patsy Braski, who presided over the noon events, introduced Betty Jean Latick Knudson who gave a spirited presentation of the "old days in Balkan Township". Patsy also created several dvds which were shown throughout the day. At 5 p.m. barbecued pork sandwiches, potato salad, beans, etc. were served.

A "History of Balkan Township" room was also created that displayed resident's pictures, mementos and stories of the pioneers that settled in Balkan Township during its early years. Various trophies, etc. were also displayed.

The evening concluded with a bond fire where residents were able to visit and reminisce about the "Good Old Days in Balkan Township".
